PERTUSATI ADJUSTS TO THE GRIND OF LONG SEASON, NEW POSITIONAugust 27, 2009
It doesn’t sound that hard and, to someone sitting in the stands, it doesn’t look that hard.
Playing more than 100 baseball games in five months, that is.
But imagine you’re going through it for the first time...

There’s a new leader in the clubhouse, and he’s likely to stay for a long time.
Andy Pettitte has passed Curt Schilling as the former Greensboro player with the most career victories in the major leagues. It was not unexpected – Pettitte trailed Schilling by just one win going into this season.

I’ll be honest – I don’t recall Russ Springer.

START THE DISCUSSION: SHOULD SCHILLING GO IN THE HALL OF FAME?July 2, 2008
Let’s suppose, for the sake of discussion, that Curt Schilling has pitched his last game in the major leagues.
Hey, I don’t want to write him off for 2009. But he will be 42 next season, coming off shoulder surgery. Even players as tough as he is eventually find an obstacle they can’t overcome. He’ll probably try rehab and see how that goes before making a final decision.
RODRIGUEZ ADDS TO ALL-STAR MEMORIES WHILE 3 HOPPERS BEGIN BUILDING THEIRSJune 18, 2008
It was a different setting and a different perspective, but no less satisfying for Edwin Rodriguez.

He’s one of those athletes who makes a hard game look easy.
When you watch Chris Coghlan play baseball for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, you’re struck by the smooth way he does almost everything, particularly when he’s hitting. Guys like that just turn on the motor and play, you might think to yourself.
Confidence Makes the DifferenceMay 28, 2007
If “Confidence” was sold in bottles, everyone would keep one in their medicine chest and take a big gulp each morning.
Since it doesn’t happen like that, most people gain confidence by achieving success through hard work, which in turn breeds more confidence and more success.

GREENSBORO CONNECTION RUNS DEEP IN MAJOR LEAGUESApril 30, 2008
There are Grasshoppers in the major leagues. Not to mention Bats, Hornets and one G-Yank.
Those references are to folks who wore one of various Greensboro uniforms and are now plying their trade in the majors. By my count – always susceptible to missing someone – as of April 30 there are 24 players (five on the disabled list), two managers and 16 coaches with a connection to Greensboro. Ask Jeff Van Houten where his power comes from and he shrugs.
