HAGERSTOWN, MD-The Grasshoppers split with the Hagerstown Suns Tuesday, as a Monday rainout forced double-header action at Municipal Stadium yesterday evening.
Game one of the double dip went in favor of the Grasshoppers, snapping the Sun's four game winning streak.
Greensboro right-hander Johnny Dorn (3-1) tossed five shutout innings and allowed only one earned run over six innings to collect his third win of the season. Hagerstown starter Jack McGeary (0-2) worked five scoreless of his own, but ultimately took the loss, his second on the year.
The Hoppers broke through in the second inning, as Justin Bass, Isaac Galloway, and Torre Langley each drove in a run.
Hagerstown would respond with a run of their own in the third, but failed to rally as Dorn retired 9 of the last 11 Suns hitters he faced.
Greensboro reliever Pete Andrelczyk closed the door in the seventh, striking out the side on the way to his third save of the year.
The second half of the double header went to the Suns in an extra inning thriller, as the Grasshoppers battled in their final at bat to force an extra frame.
Ben Lasater hit safely three times to preserve his spot as the league's top hitter, while Brandon Turner added two hits of his own, going 3-5 for the day. The Hoppers outhit the Suns 9-7, but dropped a close one, 3-2
The thrilling comeback began when Emilo Ontiveros reached on an infield single in the seventh, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then later scored the tying run on a Justin Bass single.
Suns reliever Chris Lugo forced two outs at home plate to wiggle out of trouble in the eighth, while the rest of the bullpen combined for five strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings.
Hagerstown first-basemen Robbie Jacobsen singled in the home half of the eighth to plate shortstop Jose Lozada, giving Lugo his second relief victory and Hagerstown their third extra inning win this season.
The Hoppers and Suns meet for game three of the four game set tonight at Municipal Stadium, first pitch set for 6:35.
