Every hitter in the lineup hit safely for the Hoppers, but were paced offensively by the sizzling duo of Brandon Turner and Justin Jacobs. Jacobs boasted his second straight multi-hit game, hitting .357 with five RBI in his last five games.
Turner went 3-5 on the day, capping off an impressive road trip. Turner is hitting a stout .429 in his last five games, raising his season average to a shade under .350. Turner's .348 average remains one of the two Hopper's hitters above the .300 mark, and ranks second on the team only to South Atlantic League leader Ben Lasater.
Jacobs and Kyle Skipworth each had three RBI in the contest, as the Grasshoppers early 6-0 lead proved too much for the Shorebirds.
Skipworth gathered two hits of his own, including an RBI double in the third and a solo homerun in the fifth. The two-hit performance marks the young catchers first multi-hit game as a Grasshopper, and only his fourth multi-RBI game this season.
Right-hander Tom Koehler (1-2) picked up the win for the Grasshoppers, allowing only two runs in five innings of work. Koehler surrendered just three hits and fanned a season-high eight hitters to earn his first win of the year.
Relievers Andrew Loomis and Brandon Todd combined to strike out six hitters in four innings, as the bullpen once again closed the door on their starters effort.
With the win, the Grasshoppers have won two straight games, and improve to 18-14. The Hoppers remain a half game out of the North Division lead, but return home to NewBridge Bank Park where they have posted an impressive 10-4 record.
The upcoming home stand begins Thursday, May 14th, when the Hoppers host the Hagerstown Suns, first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
