(Greensboro, NC) – The Greensboro Grasshoppers will celebrate Thursday much like any other day within the comforts of First Horizon Park while Miss Babe Ruth orchestrates quite possibly the best birthday plan ever. Eat, sleep, play.
Miss Babe Ruth, who turns one year-old today, spent much of the 2006 season in Extended Spring Training before making her Greensboro Grasshoppers debut on August 2.
The pup of champion Labrador Retriever parents, she dazzled Hoppers fans with her ability to retrieve bats, balls and run victory laps at the ballpark.
Known best during the season for her contributions to the field, Babe continues to be a thriving member of the Grasshoppers Front Office during the off-season.
“Babe is incredibly talented and dedicated to this team,” said Grasshoppers President Donald Moore, aka, ‘Daddy’. “She just loves to get out there and practice, and that is how we continue to make great strides.”
Miss Babe Ruth joined the Hoppers at just eight weeks old and amazingly made the youngest debut in Minor League Baseball seven months later.
Fans wishing to send greetings to the birthday girl can email her at missbaberuth@gsohoppers.com.
The Grasshoppers are recent recipients of the South Atlantic League’s Club Merit Award and General Manager of the Year for the second straight season. The Hoppers continue to grow attendance, as First Horizon Park welcomed 427,890 fans during the 2006 season. Season tickets are now on sale for the 2007 season.
